Anthony Joshua conqueror beaten in first heavyweight fight in two years

  • Former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr was beaten on his return to the division on Friday night.
  • Fighting for the first time in two years, Ruiz Jr was taking on Polish puncher Damian Knyba in New Jersey as he looked to get back into the title picture.
  • However, Ruiz Jr was knocked down heavily in the seventh round, and, despite making it through to the final bell, he lost the fight on all three judges’ scorecards, with Knyba declared the unanimous decision winner.
  • Ruiz Jr is now 35-3-1 (22 KOs) and has not won a fight in four years, as his last appearance in the ring saw him held to a draw by Jarrell Miller in 2024.
  • Ruiz Jr will turn 37 next week, and appears to be some way off for the form that saw him stun Anthony Joshua when he knocked out the Brit in seven rounds back in June 2019.
