PM Anwar Ibrahim says Amirudin Shari has the mandate to work out possible PH-BN cooperation for the upcoming Melaka state election.

SERDANG: Pakatan Harapan (PH) election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been given the mandate to work out the details of proposed cooperation between the coalition and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Melaka state election, said PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, said Amirudin had been entrusted with looking into the matter.

“We have given Amir (Amirudin) the responsibility to work it out,” he told the media after attending the National Maulidur Rasul Celebration 1448/2026 here today.

He was responding to a question about reports that his meeting with Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, had also discussed seat allocations for the Melaka election.

However, Anwar clarified that the meeting was related to the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), not politics.

“I met the Selangor Menteri Besar regarding SUKMA. During the Games, when would there be time for politics?” he said.

Asked about the possibility of cooperation between political parties in the Melaka polls, Anwar said cooperation was important in life and administration.

“Room for cooperation… in life, we must cooperate. This is all about cooperation,” he said before leaving.

Yesterday, PH communications director and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that Amirudin had met Anwar the previous day.

Anwar was previously reported to have said that the PH election committee would discuss the possibility of cooperation with BN for the Melaka election.

He said the committee is led by Amirudin and PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
