SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to seek an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, immediately to clarify issues surrounding the implementation of the Conditional Pardon Order involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said the move was necessary to explain the legal constraints concerning the remainder of Najib’s prison sentence in the SRC International case, as well as the implications for another case involving him, namely the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.
“I have asked the Attorney-General to seek an audience with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong immediately, to respectfully explain why the decision was accepted in the SRC case, but there are complications because it also involves a second case, the 1MDB case,” Anwar said.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the 2026 National Family Month celebration in November at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC) here today.
Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Bandar Tun Razak MP, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, her deputy Lim Hui Ying, and Selangor Women’s Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman, Anfaal Saari.
Sultan Ibrahim today decreed that the implementation of the conditional pardon granted to Najib, which allows him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest, must be respected in keeping with the principles of Constitutional Monarchy and the Rule of Law.
His Majesty said the decision, granted under the royal prerogative of pardon provided for in Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, must be implemented as decreed, without giving rise to prolonged confusion or uncertainty.
Anwar said the authority and decision of the King had never been questioned. Instead, the matter requiring clarification concerned the implementation of the royal decree in the context of the second case involving Najib.
Yesterday, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said the implementation of Najib’s house arrest had been temporarily deferred pending further examination and clarification of the interpretation of the Conditional Pardon Order and the implications of the Order of Discharge issued by the High Court here yesterday, following settlement of the RM50 million fine.
The AGC said the temporary deferment was not intended to question or set aside the royal decree, but was a measure to ensure that it and the related court order were implemented accurately, properly and in accordance with the applicable legal position.

During the deferment, Najib would remain at his current place of detention, subject to the powers and directives of the relevant authorities.
The AGC said further action would be taken once the examination and clarification process was completed.
Najib was reported to have settled the RM50 million fine imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd funds misappropriation case at the High Court Criminal Registry here yesterday.
His special officer, Ahmad Lutfi Azhar, was at the court at 11.30 am to settle the payment and complete the necessary administrative procedures before it was finalised.
The payment was one of the conditions of the conditional pardon granted by the King on Sept 18, which allows Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
Najib, 73, has been serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million belonging to SRC International.
