PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended Friday prayers with members of the public at Masjid Jamek As-Syakirin in Kampung Pelet, in Permatang Pauh today.
He arrived at about 1.15pm and was received by Permatang Pauh UMNO division chief Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said, with Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid also in attendance.
Anwar and the congregation then listened to a sermon titled “Ramadan, when the final dusk settles” (‘Ramadan, ketika senja terakhir berlabuh’) delivered by the mosque’s imam, Muhammad Nasir Hamid, who subsequently led the Friday prayers attended by about 700 worshippers.
The sermon reminded the congregation of the importance of practices during Ramadan, describing the month as an opportunity to seek Allah’s pleasure and forgiveness
It also encouraged worshippers to emulate the conduct of the pious predecessors in making the most of Ramadan, and to remain consistent in their acts of worship at all times rather than in a seasonal or intermittent manner.
Following the prayers, worshippers took the opportunity to greet the Prime Minister and pose for photographs, while he also interacted with members of the public and enquired about their preparations for Aidilfitri.
It is understood that Anwar had arrived earlier in the morning before proceeding to the mosque, where he continued his programme with a community walkabout and visits to nearby homes.
He is expected to conclude his working visit by attending a casual engagement session with local community leaders at the Permatang Pasir Community Hall today. - March 20, 2026
