Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim characterized the ongoing struggle of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to combat corruption as a formidable battle. Speaking at the Launching Ceremony of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028 in Putrajaya, Anwar underscored the challenges faced by MACC officials, including accusations and security threats.

Anwar stressed the gravity of corruption, emphasizing the need for relentless efforts, robust laws, and transparent politics to eradicate this pervasive issue effectively. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by MACC members in their fight against corruption, highlighting the importance of their dedication and resilience in tackling this complex challenge.

Highlighting the urgent need for action, Anwar warned that the culture of corruption would persist and exacerbate if left unchecked. He reiterated his commitment to supporting MACC's endeavors, emphasizing the significance of not just launching strategies but also implementing effective measures to combat corruption effectively.

Anwar lamented the prevalence of corruption despite numerous anti-corruption strategies and plans launched over the years. He cited MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki's revelation of tens of billions of ringgit lost annually to corruption, underscoring the detrimental impact on poverty eradication, infrastructure development, and the well-being of Malaysians.

In his address, Anwar emphasized the importance of education in fostering a culture of integrity and accountability. He advocated for comprehensive educational programs aimed at instilling anti-corruption values from a young age, stressing the role of schools and universities in shaping ethical attitudes and behaviors.

Anwar called for heightened public accountability, emphasizing the role of individual consciousness in rejecting corruption and abuse of power. He criticized those who defend corrupt individuals, urging society to prioritize integrity over personal allegiances.

Anwar commended MACC for its unwavering commitment to combating corruption and urged all stakeholders to join forces in this critical endeavor. He reiterated the necessity of collective action, transparent governance, and public awareness in the fight against corruption, emphasizing that the future prosperity of Malaysia hinges on the success of these efforts.
