Wan Saiful claims Anwar is not a friend of free speech in his Facebook post -

SHAH ALAM - Bersatu MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is "not a friend of free speech" and international and local observers should refrain from giving the premier a benefit of the doubt.

The Tasek Gelugor MP said it has been reported that new portals MalaysiaNow and Malaysia Today were inaccessible, suspected of being blocked.

“If true, then this is a serious breach of freedom of speech and a sign of increasing curbs on press freedom in Malaysia under Anwar.

“Anwar's administration is not only incompetent but they also abuse enforcement agencies to silence those who expose their incompetence.

“We already know that Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, recently openly threatened social media activists with police action,” he claimed in his Facebook post.

He further claimed that several social media activists have been called for an investigation by the authorities, pointing to the administration's attitude toward free speech.

“Observers, national and international, should know by now that Anwar and his administration are nowhere near the reformist they pretend to be.

“I urge international and local observers to stop giving Anwar's administration the benefit of the doubt," he said in his posting.

Sinar Daily has contacted Anwar's aide for comments.
