PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim, died today at the age of 83.
Idrus’ son-in-law, Mohd Nahar Mohd Nor, said he died of old age.
His remains are currently at Anwar’s family home in Cherok Tokun, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
Funeral prayers will be held tomorrow after Friday prayers at the temporary prayer hall of Masjid Cherok Tokun Bawah in Bukit Mertajam.
Anwar, who was on his way back to Malaysia when he received news of his brother’s death, expressed his grief in a Facebook post today.
“It was difficult to put into words the loss of a brother who had shared so many memories throughout his life.
“Only Allah SWT knows how heavy my heart feels as I come to terms with this loss,” he said.
Anwar also expressed regret that he was unable to be by Idrus’ side during his final moments, but said he accepted the loss with resignation.
He said the memories and kindness left behind by his brother would remain etched in the hearts and memories of the family.
“I humbly ask my friends to spare a prayer for the late Idrus Ibrahim. May Allah SWT forgive his shortcomings, shower His mercy upon his soul, and place him among His faithful and righteous servants.
“Al-Fatihah,” he said.
