IDRUS Ibrahim, the elder brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, passed away today.
Anwar announced the news via a social media post while on his way back to Malaysia from a working visit to China.
"On my way back to Malaysia, I received the heartbreaking news that my brother, Idrus Ibrahim, had passed away.
"It is difficult to put into words the sense of loss felt when someone with whom I shared so many memories throughout life's journey is gone; only Allah SWT knows the heaviness of my heart in accepting this reality.
"I am pained not to have been by his side during his final moments, yet I accept this with resignation, even as my heart struggles to come to terms with a parting we are never truly prepared for," he said.
He also expressed his appreciation for the memories and kindness the deceased left behind, describing the passing as a profound loss for the family.
In the same post, Anwar asked the public to pray for the well-being of the deceased's soul.
"May Allah SWT forgive all his shortcomings, shower His mercy upon his soul, and place him among His servants who possess faith and perform righteous deeds," he said.
Details regarding the funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. – September 24, 2026
