Anwar explained in parliament on Sept 19 that it was solely AG Idris Harun that decided to grant Zahid a DNAA.

According to Anwar, the AG decided to grant Zahid a DNAA because Zahid's charges were "troubling his conscience."

Why the AG's conscience was troubled however, is something that Anwar didn't feel necessary to enquire from the AG.

He just accepted the AG's explanation, inexplicable and bewildering as it may be, because he didn't want to “interfere in the AG's decision.”

God only knows what troubled the AG's conscience to the extent that he withdrew not one, or two, but all 47 charges against Zahid.

Zahid's charges did not disturb the conscience of 30 plus million Malaysians from both sides of the political divide, but somehow it disturbed the AG's.

The conscience of Malaysians as a matter of fact, was so at ease with Zahid being charged, that not a single soul protested him being charged. On the contrary, everybody from DAP to Perikatan Nasional to Syed Saddiq are vehemently protesting the charges against him being dropped.

Despite this, Anwar did not ask the AG what bothered his conscience, when it bothered no one else’s conscience, when even a school kid should have known that the AG’s decision will cause a great controversy in the country.

It didn't occur to Anwar to ask, because according to Anwar, that would be tantamount to interfering in the job of the AG.

How convenient for Anwar. How lucky for Zahid.

The AG's conscience, by the way, is also one very strange animal. Supposedly, the AG's conscience was burdened by the opinion that if it didn’t grant Zahid a DNAA, he was going to burden his successor with Zahid's case.

God only knows how the AG’s conscience arrived at such a bewildering opinion.

In all likelihood, his successor would have most likely been more than happy to inherit Zahid's case. Which lawyer would have not loved a case like Zahid’s? A case like Zahid is a once in a lifetime opportunity for any prosecutor. If you can scalp Zahid, you would have sealed your legacy. People will remember your name until the day you die. Your name might still be remembered after you die. Your children and wife will be so proud of you. You would have earned the right to write an autobiography after you resign.

But according to the AG, no no, passing the Zahid case to his successor is not him passing a great opportunity to his successor. It is instead him passing a great burden to his successor.

Hearing this strange explanation from the AG, Anwar too was entirely satisfied, as if the AG's strange reasoning made anything clear.

There is a saying, “It is better to be silent and make people suspect that you are a fool, open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

I think the Anwar would have profited greatly by following the advice.

When people ask you to explain something, they are asking you to put the matter to rest, not just talk about it in a cockamamie fashion.

If you don't possess the intelligence to put a matter to rest, at least you should have the manners to not insult the intelligence of the other people with a cockamamie explanation.
