PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has suggested that Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who will soon conclude his tenure as Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), is expected to remain involved with the government, offering his expertise and guidance in some capacity.
Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that the Prime Minister made the remarks during today’s Cabinet meeting today, which marked Tengku Zafrul’s final attendance as a minister.
"Today, the Cabinet recorded its appreciation for Zafrul, as this is his last Cabinet meeting, and the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for his service, including his achievements in investment, negotiations and trade for the country," Fahmi said at a post-Cabinet press briefing.
He added that the Prime Minister noted Tengku Zafrul, whose second-term senatorship concludes next week, - specifically on Dec 2- would likely continue assisting the government, potentially through a different role or position in the future.
Earlier, on 13 November, during the MITI Third Quarter 2025 Performance Report briefing, Tengku Zafrul confirmed that he would end his ministerial duties effective 2 December 2025.
When asked whether he would remain in government as a senior advisor, Tengku Zafrul stated that the matter would be at the discretion of the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underline an ongoing reliance on Tengku Zafrul’s experience in trade and investment, signalling continuity of expertise even as ministerial portfolios change. - November 28, 2025
