KERALAM (INDIA), Sept 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to meet Keralam Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in Calicut, also known as Kozhikode, today to discuss bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Keralam.

The discussions are expected to focus on key areas, including trade and investment, tourism, healthcare and education.

Anwar’s maiden visit to Keralam as Prime Minister is aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and unlocking strategic collaboration across key sectors, including trade and investment, the digital economy, talent and labour, education and regional connectivity.

Besides that, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold business engagements and meetings with prominent Indian industry players and corporate figures, which are expected to open up new opportunities for cooperation and investment.

Anwar’s schedule today also includes a press conference with Malaysian media before concluding his five-day working visit to India.

After attending the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, Anwar arrived in Calicut on Sunday for the second and final leg of his working visit to India.

The Prime Minister arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modern diplomatic relations between Putrajaya and New Delhi were established in 1957, shortly after Malaysia gained independence, and India remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner in South Asia, with bilateral trade reaching USD18.55 billion (RM79.33 billion) in 2025.

After completing his visit to Keralam, the Prime Minister is scheduled to depart for the Maldives today. — Bernama
