Loke proposes PH presidential council meet on ‘latest political developments’

DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke will propose to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that a Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council meeting be convened to discuss the latest political developments.

Loke, who is also the Transport Minister, said the meeting should be held once Anwar returns from his official overseas visit, to review these developments as well as several political statements made recently.

"I will certainly ask the Prime Minister to convene a meeting of the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council to examine and discuss the latest (political) developments.

"Some of the statements made are not conducive to political certainty and stability in the country," he said.

He said this when asked about the statement made by UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during his winding-up speech at the recent UMNO General Assembly (PAU) 2026, which touched on Barisan Nasional's (BN) position within the Unity Government.

Among other things, Ahmad Zahid called for the Unity Government to officially remove UMNO—via a vote in the Dewan Rakyat—if it wanted the party to leave the Unity Government.

When asked whether PH would seek clarification regarding BN's position or the challenges raised by the UMNO leadership, Loke emphasized that any official response at the highest level must come directly from the Prime Minister.

However, Loke noted that the latest political developments are viewed seriously, as they could create the perception that the component parties within the government are not moving in the same direction.

"So, I think the Prime Minister also needs to provide clarification to all component parties," he said.

He stated that political stability and certainty are crucial not only for government administration but also for public and investor confidence.

In this regard, he said, the PH Presidential Council meeting could serve as a platform to discuss these developments and... clarify the coalition's stance. – September 14, 2026
