Anwar Ibrahim and Wan Azizah visit Fadillah Yusof and former PM Ismail Sabri at IJN, wishing both leaders a speedy recovery and continued strength

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, visited Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof and former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who are receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

In a Facebook post, Anwar said Fadillah’s health was improving but that he still needed adequate rest on the advice of his medical team.

“Alhamdulillah, his health is improving, but he still needs sufficient rest on the advice of the medical team,” he said.

Anwar said he and Wan Azizah also visited Ismail Sabri, whom he described as a former prime minister and a friend, and who remains under further medical monitoring at the institute.

The visit came after the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court recently postponed the reading of charges against Ismail Sabri to Aug 27 after his lawyer informed the court that he had been admitted to IJN.

His lawyer said Ismail Sabri had developed health problems after recording a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters and was subsequently taken to IJN.

The court was told that a recent Holter study had detected possible cardiac arrhythmia requiring further investigation, with Ismail Sabri scheduled to undergo a pacemaker procedure.

Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin allowed the postponement after the prosecution did not object, citing humanitarian grounds. Ismail Sabri remains on MACC bail.

Anwar said he and Wan Azizah prayed for both leaders to make a swift recovery, have their treatment proceed smoothly and be granted continued health and strength to serve the people and country.

“I and Azizah pray that both of them will be granted a speedy recovery, that their treatment will be eased and that they will continue to be blessed with good health and strength to continue serving the people and country, insya-Allah,” he said.
