As Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) heads into its internal elections, party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on members to approach the contest with a spirit of compassion and unity rather than division. Stressing the importance of maintaining harmony within the party ranks, Anwar emphasized that political competition should never evolve into personal animosity.

During the inauguration of the PKR office in Langkawi, Anwar reflected on the current political atmosphere, noting that while competition for positions such as deputy president, vice presidents, youth, and women’s wings remains intense, many of the contenders are long-time party loyalists. He urged members to recognize the contributions of those who have been instrumental in building the party, cautioning against dismissing or undermining their past efforts during the election campaign period.

He observed that the current lineup of candidates features many capable individuals, with records that speak to their commitment and ability. Anwar acknowledged that if the structure allowed more positions, he would support more than one candidate due to the strength of the field. Nonetheless, he advised that once choices are made, members must refrain from attacking the dignity of those not selected.

Underscoring the core principles of the MADANI framework, Anwar reminded everyone that political engagement should remain rooted in values, ethics, and mutual respect. According to him, ideological differences and leadership ambitions should be handled with decorum, as the true strength of the party lies in its unity and shared purpose.

In his remarks, Anwar also stressed the need to strengthen the party’s machinery and increase grassroots participation. He encouraged a renewed focus on recruitment, particularly at the branch level, highlighting that growth and progress depend on expanding active membership and engagement. Without consistent efforts to revitalize the party base, he warned, organizational development could stagnate.

Ultimately, Anwar’s message centered around reconciliation and the long-term health of PKR. By fostering an environment where differing opinions can coexist without hostility, he hopes the party can emerge stronger and more united following the election process. His call to maintain integrity, acknowledge past sacrifices, and embrace collective responsibility serves as a reminder of the values that have shaped PKR’s journey thus far.
