As internal tensions mount within Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Deputy President Rafizi Ramli has voiced strong concerns over what he described as a culture of betrayal emerging in the lead-up to the party’s 2025 elections. Addressing party supporters during the Perak Zone Hiruk Tour at the Taman Cempaka Community Hall in Ipoh, Rafizi criticized certain individuals for feigning reconciliation while allegedly working behind the scenes to undermine him.

He described this pattern of political backstabbing as damaging not only to individual leaders but to the broader democratic spirit the party claims to uphold. While PKR has traditionally maintained an open and competitive election culture since its early days, Rafizi lamented the erosion of these values, particularly in the form of internal sabotage aimed at removing specific leaders through deliberate exclusion lists.

Rather than viewing electoral contests as a natural part of party life, Rafizi observed a shift toward coordinated efforts to suppress dissent and control candidate selection at the grassroots level. He warned that such tactics undermine party unity and betray the democratic foundation on which PKR was built.

In his remarks, Rafizi emphasized that every member should have the freedom to support and elect leaders of their choice without coercion or manipulation from those in higher positions. He rejected any suggestion that speaking out would fragment the party, arguing instead that staying silent in the face of wrongdoing would be a greater betrayal of PKR’s values.

Taking aim at what he sees as a growing fear among some members now in government roles, he questioned the courage of leaders who once championed reform but have since grown cautious. For Rafizi, speaking up—even if it risks backlash—is an act of political bravery necessary to defend the party’s principles.

He portrayed his criticisms not as an act of rebellion but as a call to restore integrity within the party. Though acknowledging that such a stance may not win widespread popularity, he maintained that standing firm in defense of truth and justice remains a cornerstone of PKR’s mission.

Rafizi concluded by urging members to return to the party’s core ideals—courage, integrity, and respect for differing views—insisting that PKR’s true strength lies in its ability to withstand pressure while holding fast to its founding values.
