Actor Taiyuddin Bakar, known for ‘Apa Celop Toq’, has been selected for a sponsored umrah package through ikhlas.com and Bank Rakyat’s infak fund.
PETALING JAYA: Once known for his role in the action-comedy film Apa Celop Toqq…, actor Taiyuddin Bakar, who now earns a living selling nasi berlauk, is set to embark on a journey to the Holy Land after being selected for an umrah sponsorship under the Tabung Infak Umrah Surau Al-Barakah Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat.
The initiative is carried out in collaboration with Ikhlas Com Travel Sdn Bhd (ikhlas.com).
The ikhlas.com production crew had initially planned to conduct a social experiment by posing as vendors selling goods to Taiyuddin, who is widely recognised for his popular catchphrase, “Apa Celop Toq”.
However, what began as a social experiment turned into a meaningful surprise when Taiyuddin was informed that he had been selected as one of five recipients of an umrah sponsorship under the Tabung Infak Umrah Surau Al-Barakah Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat.
The selection of 43-year-old Taiyuddin is part of ikhlas.com’s efforts to identify suitable candidates to benefit from the initiative.
Sharing his life journey, Taiyuddin said he and his wife, Norzazila Zulkafli, 43, had faced various challenges while building their life together before deciding to start their nasi berlauk business through car boot sales.
“We have both gone through many challenges. My wife is good at crocheting the kopiah. So, this is where we started our business. From the proceeds of the sales, my wife and I started this nasi berlauk business, and my wife chose to run the business from the car.
“Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, Ya Allah, I am coming. I miss Rasulullah,” said Taiyuddin.
He said their nasi berlauk business around the Klang Valley had become one of their main sources of income, helping them support their family while providing affordable food to customers.
Taiyuddin and four other pilgrims selected under the Tabung Infak Umrah Surau Al-Barakah Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat will perform umrah for nine days and seven nights, alongside 10 Umrah 1000 Asnaf pilgrims whose journeys are fully sponsored by ikhlas.com.
The group is scheduled to depart from Oct 19 to 26, 2026.
