APG 2022: track cyclists contribute gold, two silvers

HANGZHOU — National track cyclists Nur Suraiya Muhamad Zamri-Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan (pilot) blazed their way to the gold medal in the women’s B 1,000m time trial (visual impairment) at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games, here today.

Nur Suraiya-Farina Shawati were simply in a class of their own throughout the race with an energetic ride en route to clocking 1m 13.434s to register a clear victory at the Chun’an Jieshou Sports Centre Velodrome.

It was indeed a glorious day for the Malaysian cycling camp when teammates Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais and pilot Nurul Suhada Zainal clinched the silver with a time of 1:14.083s, while China’s Wang Linhua and Liu Zixin (pilot) clocked 1:14.787s to complete the podium.

Meanwhile, the men’s B 1,000m time trial pair contributed a silver medal when Mohd Khairul Hazwan Wahab-Muhammad Khairul Adha Rasol (pilot) clocked 1:05.740s to finish behind the gold medal-winning Chinese riders Luo Fei-Ma Wenhao who clocked 1:04.321s.

Iran riders Heidarabadi Mohammad Dalir-Reza Rashno came in third for the bronze with a time of 1:06.343s.

The gold won today was the second for the Malaysian contingent since swimmer Muhammad Nur Syaiful Zulkafli contributed the first gold medal yesterday from the men’s SB4 100m breaststroke. — October 24, 2023
