LAHAD DATU: The East Sabah Coastal Special Security Zone (Esscom) proposed an application to monitor security and provide protection for tourists visiting areas under the Esszone.

Esscom Commander DCP Victor Sanjos said such application is used in several developed countries to monitor the movements of tourists to ensure their safety.

Tourists only need to scan the application and Esscom would know their movements.

“We can send our assets to inspect and guarantee their safety,” he said when met after the Esscoom shooting competition with Esszone media practitioners.

He said Esscom fully supports Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s proposal to deploy drones to beef up security off Sabah waters.

He said ESSZone covers a wide area from Kudat to Tawau and the use of technology can speed up information gathering.

“We will propose to the Chief Secretary (KSU) of the Ministry of Home Affairs to disclose this matter.

“The use of UAVs is vital because if we send assets to the field, we may experience damage or weather problems, but if we send UAVs we will get information and then direct the assets to the field,” he added.

A total of 54,795 people visited the Esszone area and this number showed a significant increase, he said.
