SHAH ALAM - All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) has suggested for amendments to be made to the law to ensure whistleblowers are protected, immediately.
Its chairman Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said amendments to such law should be the focus right now as it contained weaknesses which could hinder anti-corruption efforts for transparency in the country.
"Loopholes to relevant provisions can be abused for the interests of certain parties and this can bring difficulties in combating corruption.
"We should also recognise the role of a whistleblower since the information are given for the sake to protect our country," he said in a statement.
The Tumpat MP said amendments that were implemented immediately will form a control mechanism on integrity issues and block any leaks that could harm the country at an early stage.
The suggestions were for the amendments of laws involving protection to whistleblowers under Sections 4, 6(1), 7, 8(1) and (4), and 11 of the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010, Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 17A of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC) 2009, he said.
