Ronald Araujo resisted bigger offers from England to commit to Barcelona towards the end of last season.
The Uruguay defender has signed a new contract with Barca in April to 2026.
However, Sport says Araujo could easily have been lost to the Premier League.
Bigger offers were tabled to Araujo's minders at the time, but the defender never wavered in his commitment to the Blaugrana.
Manchester City and Manchester United were among clubs in contact with Araujo's representatives last season.
