Following the full-time whistle in New Jersey on Sunday (19 July), Spanish substitutes ran onto the pitch to join in with their team’s celebrations at the MetLife Stadium.
Argentina defender Nahuel Molina then appeared to throw a punch at Spain’s captain Rodri as he ran past him. Midfielder Leandro Paredes also had altercations with Spain’s Eric Garcia and Gavi.
Lionel Scaloni, head coach of the South American team, then ran onto the field to try to stop the brawl along with other coaching staff.
The Argentina players’ behaviour has been widely condemned, with Alan Shearer calling the display “terrible”, whilst Gary Neville branded the team’s actions a “disgrace”.
