Arman Tsarukyan speaks on what he could achieve as lightweight champion

Arman Tsarukyan might be the best lightweight in the world right now.

He hasn’t fought for the title yet, but it’s clear he has a specific vision for his future as a champion.

Tsarukyan appeared on Adin Ross’ stream, where he spoke about his admiration for Khabib Nurmagomedov, calling him his favourite fighter to watch.

Despite that respect, he also feels confident that if they’d ever faced each other in the Octagon, he could have come out on top against one of the sport’s few unbeaten legends.

If Arman Tsarukyan hadn’t pulled out of his title fight due to injury, he would have already faced Islam Makhachev in a rematch last year.

Tsarukyan recently picked Makhachev over Khabib Nurmagomedov when he was asked during Adin Ross’ stream which he believes is the better fighter.

He thinks the current champion has developed a broader skillset, especially in terms of striking, compared to ‘The Eagle’.

And speaking with Nawid Yosufi, Tsarukyan made it clear why he rates himself higher than a prime Khabib too.

“It’s probably a decision,” he said. I’m more well-rounded than him.”

Khabib did add to his striking during his UFC run but remained best known for his grappling dominance, which set him apart as one of the sport’s top specialists.

Nurmagomedov’s stats may look stronger on paper, but there’s something else worth pointing out here.

Nurmagomedov’s approach often involved controlling fights from the top position, which not only limited his opponents’ opportunities but also allowed him to accumulate significant volume without facing much in return.
