
Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Army has confirmed the identities of two personnel who were killed in the explosion during grenade-throwing training at the Hobart Camp shooting range in Gurun, Kedah, this morning.
In a statement, the Army said the duo were Corporal Norazmi Abu Bakar from the 6th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment (6 RAMD), and Private Siti Khadijah Sungip from the 1st Squadron, Royal Army Engineers Regiment (1 RAJD).
Both sustained severe injuries in the 10.57am incident and were pronounced dead while being transported to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) in Sungai Petani.
“The incident occurred while they were undergoing RAJD Combat Enhancement Training under the 2nd Infantry Division of the Army. The remains will be sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for post-mortem,” the statement said.
It said Army Chief, General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman, has ordered a full and immediate investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
He also expressed deep sorrow over the loss and conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased, urging them to remain strong in facing the tragedy.
The Army further assured that all aspects of training safety will be continuously reviewed and improved based on the findings of the investigation.
