Arsenal chief Edu admits they tried to sign Raphinha before his move to Barcelona.

Edu was keen to sign the former Leeds United attacker this summer, but the Brazil international only wanted a move to the Nou Camp.

He told Sky Sports: "People think we went too deep on Raphinha, because Raphinha was everywhere. It is fitting that we had some conversations with Deco because Deco is his agent and I have a good relationship with him, we are friends.

"I just said to Deco: 'Can you explain the situation with Raphina?' and it was clear: 'Edu, we have a good relationship but I'm not going to lie to you, his idea of him is to go to Barcelona because he dreams of going to Barcelona, and we have been talking to Barcelona for a long time...'

"Ok, thank you very much, if something happens let me know because I can explore and understand the situation. If not, no problem and let's move on with our relationship."
