Art Garfunkel has postponed his forthcoming UK tour due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
One half of musical duo Simon & Garfunkel with Paul Simon, the American musician had been scheduled to play four UK dates this month as part of his What A Wonderful World tour.
Things were meant to kick off in Watford on 13 October and culminate with a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 19 October.
But on Thursday (8 October), the 84-year-old rocker’s management announced that the shows had been postponed due to an undisclosed reason that meant Garfunkel was “unable to perform as planned”.
While new dates are yet to be announced, it was said that his team were working with the venues to find new dates, which would be announced shortly.
“Ticket holders are requested to retain their original tickets, as they will remain valid for the new dates,” the statement read. “We appreciate your patience and understanding.
While Garfunkel is best known for his Grammy-winning work with Simon, 84 – with the pair releasing songs such as “The Sound of Silence” and “Mrs Robinson” – the band split in 1970 following years of squabbles.
Following a lengthy estrangement in the wake of a 2010 reunion tour, Garfunkel revealed in 2024 that he and Simon had come together for the first time in years for an emotional dinner.
“It was a great experience,” he told The Independent weeks later, explaining how the meeting came about after he ran into Simon’s son in a hotel corridor. “Before I knew it, we had a dinner and it was a memorable night. It was so great to relive – it had been years since we were together.”
Over their meals, Garfunkel apologised for a 2015 interview in which he’d called Simon a “jerk” and an “idiot” for walking away from the group at the height of their success in the wake of 1970’s Bridge Over Troubled Water album.
“I thought I would stir things up and not be so soft on the image of Simon & Garfunkel,” he said. “So I was a little spicy, and it was foolish. It hurt his feelings.
“He said, ‘It’s not so much that you were a victim of the British press, it’s that I thought you wanted to hurt me.’ He said that; I realised, he’s right. I did want to hurt him. The truth is, I was competitive – and I burst into tears. There were hugs and tears; it was an emotional release.”
