THE Filipino para athletes and coaches at the 2026 Asean Para Games will each receive a P6,000 bonus from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

The Asean Para Games will run from Jan. 20 to 26 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Philippine contingent Deputy Chef de Mission Francis “Kiko” Diaz posted a video of PSC Chairman Patrick "Pato" Gregorio who announced the said bonus for the athletes and coaches.

"It’s not too late. Fight well, because Chairman Pato and the PSC commissioners will give you a special bonus and a special travel allowance," said Gregorio in Filipino.

"Just like what we did for the athletes of the Southeast Asian Games, all of you para athletes and coaches will receive P6,000 each so that with full courage and with all your heart, you can fight for the Philippines in the Asean Para Games in Thailand."

Under Republic Act 10699 or the Expanded National Athletes and Coaches Incentives and Benefits Act, para athletes who win medals at the Asean Para Games will also receive cash incentives from the government.

The gold medalists will get P150,000 as the silver medalists take P75,000 and the bronze medalists will claim P30,000.

The Philippines are to be represented by 216 athletes in the weeklong Para Games.

The Filipino bets look to eclipse their fifth place finish in 2023 at the last meet edition in Cambodia, where they raked 33 golds, 33 silvers, and 50 bronzes for the country's best performance yet in the tournament.

Chess player Darry Bernardo emerged as the most bemedaled athlete with six golds followed by teammate Cheyzer Crystal Mendoza with five.

Swimmer Angel Otom added four golds as the trio anchored the Philippine medal haul in Cambodia.
