The Vigilance Bureau Ludhiana Range claimed to have caught an Assistant Sub- Inspector (ASI) posted at Police Division -8 red handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 from a man for supplying copy of First Information Report (FIR) and acting in the complaint.

The arrested cop was identified as ASI Hardeep Singh.

A spokesperson of VB Ludhiana stated that complainant Ram Ishwar resident of Gopal Nagar, near Gataa Factory, Haibowal Kalan Ludhiana accompanied by his nephew Ram Sewak appeared at the office of Vigilance Bureau, Range Ludhiana and recorded his statement before DSP Shiv Chand that his daughter Khushbu who is about 22 years old who had passed the tailoring course from Government ITI Girls, Ghumar Mandi Ludhiana was at ITI Ghumar Mandi to get her result on May 18, 2026, but she did not return home till evening, so the complainant searched for her at his own level, but his daughter was not found.

Due to which the complainant Ram Ishwar filed a report regarding the disappearance of his daughter at Police Station Division No.-8 Ludhiana on May 19, 2026.

VB spokesperson further stated that Investigating Officer ASI Hardeep Singh called the complainant to the police station on May 20, 2026 on which the complainant went to Police Station along with his nephew Ram Sewak, where ASI Hardeep Singh demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000 for taking action on his application and received Rs. 6000 on the spot. After the orders of the senior officers, FIR No.-155 dated 26-05-2026 was registered at Police Station Division No 08 on the charges of wrongful confinement against accused identified as Puneet Kumar resident of Uttar Pradesh.

ASI Hardeep Singh demanded the remaining amount of Rs. 14,000 from complainant to give the copy of FIR and take further action in the case. On May 27, he recorded his statement with DSP Shiv Chand by promising to pay Rs 14,000. By laying a trap through proper means, the accused ASI Hardeep Singh, was arrested in the presence of official witnesses while taking bribe from Police Station Division No -08.

A case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the accused cop and further investigation was underway.
