The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing anti-corruption drive, has apprehended Davinder Pal Singh Reader for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

An official spokesperson for the state VB said the accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Chak Kanian Khurd village in Moga district.

The spokesperson said the complainant’s son had a pending case related to the division of 13 acres of land in the court of the DRO, Moga. The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for settling the case within five to six months. He reportedly asked the complainant to pay Rs 50,000 in advance and the remaining amount after the final settlement of the case. The complainant had recorded the entire conversation.

Unwilling to pay the alleged bribe, the complainant approached the VB unit in Moga. Acting on the complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station in Ferozepur, and further investigation is under way.
