TAWAU: Police arrested a man suspected of assaulting his wife with an electric guitar at a residence in Kampung Tanah Merah, Merotai Besar, here, on Tuesday.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 44-year-old suspect is also believed to have threatened to stab his wife with a pair of scissors.

“The arrest was made within 24 hours after the 36-year-old victim lodged a report at the Bombalai Police Station,” he said on Wednesday.

According to the victim, the incident occurred around 7.13pm after she suspected her husband of abusing syabu (methamphetamine).

“The suspect became aggressive, repeatedly threatening to stab the victim with scissors, and struck her right shoulder with an electric guitar,” he said.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect also allegedly punctured the tyres of the victim’s vehicle to prevent her from going to the police station.

Police have since seized the suspected weapons — an electric guitar and a pair of scissors — found discarded by the roadside near the house, believed to have been thrown away by the suspect.

“The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 506 of the same code (for causing injury and criminal intimidation),” he said.
