
TAWAU: A foreigner was caught red-handed attempting to break into a gold shop on Jalan Stephen Tan here last Friday while he was distractedly cutting a padlock nearby.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 57-year-old suspect was arrested around 12.40am after acting suspiciously near the premises.
“When approached, the suspect resisted arrest, turned aggressive and tried to flee, but our patrolling officers quickly subdued him,” Jasmin said.

Upon arrival, police found the suspect using a hacksaw to cut through the shop’s shutter and tampering with the building’s electrical wiring.
“We seized several burglary tools, including a hacksaw, saw blades and a crowbar, believed to be used in the attempted break-in,” Jasmin added.
The suspect, who lacked valid identification documents, is now in police custody for further investigation.
