KENINGAU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained a government assistant engineer to assist investigations into alleged abuse of position involving government projects in Keningau.
The male suspect, who works at a government department in Keningau, is alleged to have used his position to certify completion certificates for projects carried out by a company owned by his wife.
Initial investigations found that 15 government projects worth about RM1.9 million in total were allegedly carried out by the company through several original contractors, involving projects such as Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) houses, solar streetlight installations and concrete drains.
The company allegedly received about 95 per cent of the project value, while the remaining five per cent was paid to the original contractors for the use of their company licences.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, with a remand application to be made at the Keningau Magistrate’s Court on Oct 6.
