Aston Villa boss Gerrard: Douglas Luiz and I have spoken

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard insists Douglas Luiz hasn't been unsettled after crazy deadline day.

Arsenal had three offers for the Brazil midfielder rejected, while Liverpool were also turned down.

Gerrard said today: “I spoke to him yesterday, he understood the position that the club was in and he very much respects the decision."

On Villa's new signings Leander Dendoncker (Wolves) and Jan Bednarek (Southampton), the manager also said: “Both players bring vital Premier League and international experience, they bring profile and stature.

“Jan has come to challenge himself, it's a fresh start for him.

“We need his aggression, his profile and his defensive capabilities."
