KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has immediately suspended a member of its staff following allegations of sexual harassment involving at least eight students at a MARA educational institution.

MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the action was taken to facilitate a thorough investigation to be conducted without interference from the parties involved.

He said the matter came to light after receiving direct messages from several students claiming to be victims, prompting him to order MARA management to take immediate action.

“I tried hard to persuade them to file a police report, as this involves a criminal matter. I find it curious that these students are more willing to complain directly to me than to the management,” he said in a Facebook post.

Asyraf Wajdi said MARA would never compromise on any form of misconduct and gave an assurance that no cases would be covered up or silenced in an effort to protect the institution’s reputation.

“Do not be afraid to report any misconduct, especially regarding sexual harassment. MARA will never compromise on such misconduct and will take stern action, including dismissal, against those involved,” he said. — Bernama
