JOHOR BAHRU – Age was no barrier for an 88-year-old retiree, who drove himself to the polling station on Saturday to fulfil his civic duty as a voter.
Said Kamit said he drove his Perodua Kancil alone to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Universiti 2 in Skudai to cast his vote.
He said he was still capable of driving despite his age and was happy to have fulfilled his responsibility as a voter.
"I came alone and drove myself to the polling station. Alhamdulillah, I can still drive even at my age.
"I'm happy that I've fulfilled my responsibility. I hope my preferred candidate wins and becomes the people's representative in this constituency," he told Sinar on Saturday.
Said, who is originally from Pontian and now lives in Taman Universiti said he had only missed voting twice in his lifetime, both times when he was younger.
He also expressed happiness at seeing the strong turnout at the polling station, including senior citizens and young voters who came out to fulfil their civic responsibility.
"It's heartening to see so many people coming out to vote. Senior citizens and young people alike are doing their part," he said.
