TAWAU - Bystanders thwart a man’s attempt to steal 20 oil palm fruits using his Perodua Kancil in Kampung Membalua, here, on Wednesday.

The 23-year old suspect was arrested after a public member handed him over to the police at the Bandar Sri Indah police station in the incident at about 2am.

Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the suspect had used a Perodua Kancil to transport 20 oil palm fruits he had stolen which belonged to a complainant from the Membalua area.

The suspect was arrested and the vehicle and oil palm fruits were seized for further investigation.

"The suspect was arrested and the vehicle and oil palm fruits were seized for further investigation," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Thursday.

Jasmin said the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

"The suspect was remanded for four days until Saturday and the investigations are still ongoing including waiting for the urine test results to find out if the suspect was involved in drug abuse,” he said.
