Hannah Green birdied a playoff to win her third LA Championship, edging out two South Koreans for her fourth worldwide victory this year
LOS ANGELES: Australia’s Hannah Green captured her third LA Championship title with a birdie on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.
She edged out South Korean contenders Kim Sei-young and Im Jin-hee to secure her eighth career LPGA Tour victory.
Green carded a four-under-par 68 in the final round to force her way into the playoff.
She recorded five birdies on the back nine to join the leaders on a 17-under total of 217.
“I’m just fortunate that I at least got into the playoff,” Green said.
“I had that putt, very similar line, in regulation. It still was a tough putt so really glad it went in the hole.”
The win is her fourth worldwide victory this season.
She previously won the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore, the Women’s Australian Open and the Australian WPGA.
The triumph comes in the final event before the season’s first major, next week’s Chevron Championship in Houston.
Kim started the final day with a two-shot lead but closed with a two-under 70.
She bogeyed the par-three 17th to fall back into the tie.
“Just a little disappointed because I had a good chance for the win,” Kim said.
Im surged into contention with a five-under 67 that included an eagle on the par-five 16th.
All three players returned to the 18th hole for the playoff.
Im missed the green with her approach shot and Kim missed her birdie putt.
Green then sank a long curling birdie putt to claim the title.
This year’s event was held at El Caballero for a second straight season due to renovations at Wilshire Country Club.
Green had won her previous two LA Championship titles at Wilshire in 2023 and 2024.
