Austria have renewed the contract of national team coach Ralf Rangnick beyond the World Cup and until Euro 2028.
The national federation ÖFB made the announcement on Saturday, ahead of the team's first World Cup match on Tuesday against Jordan.
The new deal covers Euro qualifying and will be automatically extended if the team reaches the tournament in Britain and Ireland.
German national Rangnick has coached the team since 2022. He led them to Euro 2024 and now to the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
“I am delighted that we are able to share this fantastic news with our fans just before the World Cup kicks off,” said Josef Pröll, chairman of the ÖFB supervisory board.
“The clarity that has now been established is particularly important for the team.”
Pröll said that renewal was possible with the help of sponsors but he also insisted that Rangnick not only stayed because of the money. He was lately linked with a move to Italian club AC Milan.
“The fact that he chose Austria and his team shows just how important this project is to him. It’s something he’s truly passionate about,” Pröll said.
