Most of us love Prawn Curry, don’t we? We thought that it is difficult to make delicious prawn curry at home. Actually, making prawn curry is quite simple. What you need to know is how to clean the prawns and how to devein it.
Here is a simple recipe on how to cook it. This is my family’s favourite, and it is never enough for them. Here are the ingredients and methods below:

Ingredients
- 30 medium-size prawns (peel and devein them)
- 30 pieces long beans (cut into 4 cm length each)
- 8 pips garlic
- 3 medium onions
- 1 thumb size ginger
- 2 pieces lemongrass (serai – the white part only cut into small slices)
- ½ cup water for grinding
- 1 ½ cups water
- 4 tablespoon heaped fish curry powder (baba’s brand)
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon fennel powder
- 1 medium size tomato (cut into 8 slices)
- 3 sprigs curry leaves
- 2 tablespoons coriander leaves and stems chopped
- 6 tablespoons oil
- 2 cinnamon sticks & 3 cloves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 60 ml full cream milk
Method
- Take a blender, and put garlic, onion, ginger and lemongrass in it. Now add half a cup of water to it. Grind the above until it becomes a smooth paste. Keep aside.
- In a pot, pour oil, and keep your flame on high heat. Put in cinnamon sticks, cloves and curry leaves. Saute for 15 seconds or until they crackle.
- Add the ground mixture and cook for 2 minutes. Now add curry powder, chilli and fennel powder and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Reduce the flame to low and cook until oil appears on top of the cooking pot. If you need some water during this process, do add 3 to 4 tablespoons. Do keep on mixing the mixture constantly in order to avoid it from burning.
- The curry paste is now ready. Add 1 ½ cups of water, salt, coriander leaves and stems. Mix well. Add milk, and bring the flame to high. Once the curry boils, reduce the flame to low heat and add long beans, prawns and slices of tomatoes.
- Cook the curry for 10 minutes, then switch off the fire.
- Your Authentic Delicious Prawn Curry is ready. Do give it a try today and you will be amazed by the taste. Enjoy!!
Final thoughts:
- This curry can be eaten with white rice, biryani, tomato rice, chapati, roti canai and also with bread.
- If you are cooking nasi lemak, this curry can be a good choice to accompany it.
- The flavour of this curry comes from the lemongrass that has been blended.
