- Scottish crime writer Peter May has died aged 74 at his holiday home in the south of France.
- His death was announced by his widow, Janice Hally, on Monday following his passing on Friday night.
- Best known for The Lewis Trilogy, May sold around 15 million books worldwide across a career spanning journalism, TV and fiction.
- Tributes were paid by his publisher Jon Riley, who described him as “irreplaceable”, and Scottish First Minister John Swinney.
- May's final novel, Island Of The Dead, is set to be published posthumously in January 2027.
