A few days ago, our nation was shaken by an attempted coup to change the state government in Sabah by ousting Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as Chief Minister. A few assemblymen who had pledged their loyalty to Datuk Seri Hajiji as Chief Minister not too long ago decided to change their mind. They did not consider or remember their earlier pledge of loyalty.
This is really a disgusting move. Malaysia has gone through a lot these three years. Many lives have been lost to Covid and suicide. Many businesses have suffered tremendously. Food prices have been on the rise and the rakyat is struggling to cope with so many challenges. However, with the appointment of our 10th Prime Minister, things are beginning to be more settled and stabilized. Our ministers are trying their best to whatever is needed so that Malaysia can be on the right track. The question I am asking is, "Do these elected assemblymen who attempted the coup really care for the nation? Or are they more concerned about self- interests and self agendas?"
Please, away with self. Put the interest of Malaysia first in your agendas. Remember the five principles of Rukun Negara. Show your loyalty to the king and the country. Honor the supremacy of the constitution and abide by the rules of the law. In all you do, please exemplify courtesy and morality. Believe that God will help us. Please remember why the rakyat elected each of you to positions of authority. We need every single one of our elected assemblymen and leaders to work together and steer the nation to the right direction amidst the storms that come our way.
Pause and reflect. Please do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Away with self and put the welfare of Malaysia first. As our elected leaders, the rakyat expect all of you to debate and brainstorm various issues so that Malaysia can not only progress but soar! We, the rakyat do not want our parliament to be labelled a circus or see the game of musical chairs in our government. Enough of politicking and political scheming. Please give due respect to the rakyat's choice in our recent General Election (GE15). Please allow this new government under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to do their work. Please allow the Sabah State Government to finish their term.
As leaders, always be courageous to acknowledge weaknesses or defeat. Always choose the humility to accept the differences that we see in our diverse community. We can always choose to agree to disagree when the need arises - all because Malaysia comes first in all our hearts.
