A senior citizen has pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault against his daughter. The 63-year-old man, who works as an e-hailing driver, admitted to the charges in the Sessions Court before Judge Noor Aini Yusof.
The alleged offenses took place between March and June 2022 at a house in Tanah Liat, Bukit Mertajam, where the accused and his daughter resided. These offenses, involving a minor who was 13 years old at the time, are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns.
The man has been charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries severe penalties, including imprisonment for a maximum period of twenty years and whipping upon conviction. Such charges reflect the gravity of the crimes committed and the need for justice to be served. During the court hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Amira Ruzaini Wan Abdul Razak argued against granting bail as the accused is the victim's father and is living in the same household. She expressed concerns about the potential risk the accused may pose to the victim if granted bail.
Taking into consideration the prosecution's argument, the judge decided not to offer bail to the accused, who was not represented by legal counsel. The sentencing has been scheduled for September 27th, where the court will decide the appropriate punishment for the accused.
