Ayala Land supports DOE energy efficiency campaign

AYALA Land Inc. has pledged full support for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) nationwide energy efficiency campaign, committing more than 350 properties across its portfolio to participate in a weekly energy-saving initiative aimed at reducing electricity consumption.

The program, called “O.N.E.: Oras Natin sa Efficiency (One Hour, One Energy, One Nation),” encourages households, businesses and institutions to switch off nonessential lighting and reduce power use for one hour every week from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mabel Reyes, corporate sustainability manager at Ayala Land, told reporters that the initiative would be implemented across its malls, offices, residential communities, hotels, logistics facilities and estate developments nationwide.

“All of our commercial properties are committed to this campaign,” she said.

Reyes said malls would observe the energy-saving hour every Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., while office buildings will participate every Saturday during the same time slot.

Other property segments, including hospitality, logistics and residential developments, will also join the rollout across the company’s managed portfolio.

She said the program was set to initially run for one year, with the possibility of extension depending on results and continued alignment with national energy efficiency efforts.

Reyes clarified that only nonessential lighting would be switched off during the designated hour and that safety and security lighting would remain operational.

Ayala Land said the campaign builds on existing energy management programs that have already been implemented across its properties.

The company noted that its commercial properties currently consume about one million megawatt-hours of electricity annually, underscoring the scale of its energy management efforts.

“Through our partnership with the Department of Energy, we are proud to support the O.N.E Campaign and help drive a culture of responsible energy use across communities,” Ayala Land Chief Sustainability Officer Robert Lao said.

The company’s shares slipped P0.70, or 4.76 percent, to close at P14.00 each on Thursday.
