Azeez insisted on keeping the lock-up attire and handcuffs until the court proceedings had been completed.

PETALING JAYA: Former Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim chose to wear a purple police lock-up uniform and remain handcuffed when he appeared at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said.

In a statement, the anti-graft agency said Azeez had been advised by its officers, the police personnel escorting him and his lawyer, to change into civilian clothing and that there was no need for him to remain handcuffed.

However, it said Azeez insisted on keeping the lock-up attire and handcuffs until the court proceedings had been completed.

“The wearing of the lock-up uniform and handcuffs was not ordered or required by any party, particularly the MACC,” it said.

The agency said the clarification was issued to prevent speculation and the spread of inaccurate information regarding Azeez’s appearance in court.

It urged all parties to refrain from making unverified claims, particularly concerning the circumstances surrounding his attire and the use of handcuffs.
