KUALA LUMPUR - Former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex this morning to face charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
The former Baling MP entered the courtroom at 10.21am wearing a purple police lock-up uniform with his hands cuffed.
Based on the court system’s records, Abdul Azeez is scheduled to be charged before Judge Azura Alwi at 9am.
On Aug 27, Abdul Azeez and a former Treasury secretary-general were each remanded for seven days until Sept 2 to assist investigations following the disclosure of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH
Both individuals were investigated under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
The RCI report on TH, which was made public on July 29, recommended a forensic audit into past investment decisions that contributed to the institution’s significant asset value decline.
The report, which examined TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020, also identified troubled investments requiring further audit, as well as suspicious transactions and alleged concealment of information.
The RCI investigation covered issues related to TH during the period, based on findings by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY) and Roland Berger, while excluding the restructuring and recovery plans implemented at the time. - BERNAMA
