Jared Bahay and Kieffer Alas took over as Ateneo de Manila University repeated over National University, 69-65, in the UAAP Season 89 men's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Wednesday.
Bahay drilled back-to-back triples and Alas hit one of his own in a 9-0 rally that gave the Blue Eagles a 68-62 lead with 35 seconds left.
Macmac Alfanta sank a triple to pull the Bulldogs within three with 24 seconds remaining in the game.
Missing two free throws off an unsportsmanlike foul by Reinhard Jumamoy, Alas bounced back with a split off an intentional foul by Paul Francis with 2.5 seconds left to seal Ateneo's second straight win.
The Blue Eagles also ended the Bulldogs' 4-game winning streak as Ateneo rose to 5-4 for a share of third place with the De La Salle Green Archers.
NU stayed in second place with a 6-3 record.
