BAHRAIN Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa arrived in Malaysia today to attend the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend, marking Formula One’s return to Malaysia after a nine-year absence.
Prince Salman arrived by special aircraft at the Bunga Raya Complex at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at noon.
He was received by three members of the Johor royal family — Tunku Temenggung Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim — as well as Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
The arrival ceremony included a Local Guard of Honour mounted by the First Battalion, Royal Ranger Regiment, comprising two officers and 26 personnel.
Prince Salman’s visit is in conjunction with the staging of the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend.
Sepang is serving as a temporary venue for the Bahrain Grand Prix, with the event also marking the return of Formula One racing to Malaysia for the first time since the Malaysian Grand Prix was last held at the circuit in 2017.
The main race is scheduled to take place on Sunday. - October 2, 2026
