Bahrain on Saturday said it had come under an Iranian drone attack hours after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had struck US-linked targets in the region.
Bahrain's Foreign Ministry said the attack had been carried out Saturday at dawn with several drones and condemned it as a "flagrant violation of the Gulf kingdom's sovereignty," the official Bahraini news agency BNA reported.
"The Iranian regime’s continued attacks at a time when regional and international efforts are moving towards de-escalation, puts the sole responsibility for undermining peace efforts on Tehran," the ministry said.
The ministry did not specify the target of the reported attack, or potential damage.
Bahrain, home to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, came under repeated attacks launched by Iran against Gulf countries that host US military facilities during the Middle East war.
The US military said Friday it had carried out strikes on targets in Iran in response to a drone attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz that Washington blamed on Tehran.
In response to the US attacks, the IRGC said its navy had attacked US targets in the region, Iran's Tasnim and IRNA news agencies reported.
US President Donald Trump had earlier accused Iran of launching at least four drone attacks against ships in the vital strait, calling it a "foolish violation" of a ceasefire deal between both countries.
The latest exchanges marked the first military strikes since the US and Iran reached earlier this month a framework agreement aimed at ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
