However, a video shared on Instagram demonstrates that Bak Kut Teh can indeed be made Halal, ensuring that everyone in Malaysia can enjoy this beloved dish!

A Malay father-son duo in Singapore is making waves by offering a diverse range of Chinese delicacies, with their signature being a Halal version of Bak Kut Teh prepared with beef.

The video, originally posted on Singapore's official TikTok account by the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth in July 2023, portrays the father, Kamal, and his son, Shah, managing a food stall with a variety of Chinese dishes like minced meat noodles, wonton noodles, and fried kway teow.

Despite the unconventional twist, their standout offering is the "Beef Bak Kut Teh." Kamal revealed that the ingredients for his version include beef ribs, brisket, various fresh Chinese herbs, and a meticulously brewed dark herbal broth. They prepare around 50 bowls of this Halal version daily.

Having been in business for 25 years, Kamal proudly shared that his Halal Chinese cuisine not only attracts Malay customers but also individuals from the Indian and Chinese Muslim communities. He emphasized that his customers appreciate the unique fusion of flavours, with Chinese patrons expressing high praise for the Halal adaptation.

In an interview, Kamal stated that he does not see race as an issue, highlighting the diversity of his customer base. His son, Shah, expressed his intention to inherit his father's business, carrying forward the ethos of embracing multiculturalism.
