BAM appoints Nova Widianto as mixed doubles coach

KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia has appointed two-time former mixed doubles world champion Nova Widianto as mixed doubles coach for next year’s Paris Olympics.

The 45-year-old has signed for two years and will be reporting to doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky.

Rexy said that the national mixed doubles players are excited at the prospect of having a coach of his calibre helping them.

“Nova’s knowledge and volume of experience will be extremely valuable to the current players in the squad, especially with the qualifying competitions for the Paris Olympics beginning next year,” said Rexy.

The national team is expected to significantly improve their performance with Nova on board.

Nova is widely regarded as one of the best mixed doubles players of his era.

He won the world championships in 2005 and 2007 and was a silver medallist at the 2008 Olympics with Liliyana Natsir. – The Vibes, December 21, 2022
