KUALA LUMPUR – The swimming pool at the Bangsar Sports Complex is finally getting a new lease of life after being closed for several years, with a RM3.5 million upgrade funded through Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) internal allocation.

In a statement to Scoop, DBKL said the renovation works include upgrading the adult and children’s pools, enhancing the water circulation system, repairing drains, and replacing existing light fittings with energy-efficient LEDs.

New facilities such as a storage room, an OKU-friendly ticket counter, and a covered spectator area are also being added.

The swimming pool’s existing depth, ranging from 0.9 metres to 1.5 metres, will be maintained. The project is scheduled for completion by March 2026.

As of now, physical progress stands at 34.56 per cent, compared with the scheduled 49.66 per cent, DBKL noted.

“DBKL remains focused on improving coordination at the site and optimising work to ensure the project stays on track.

“The Bangsar Sports Complex reflects DBKL’s commitment to enhancing public sports facilities in Kuala Lumpur, ensuring they remain relevant, safe, and appealing in line with efforts to promote a healthy and inclusive lifestyle,” the statement read.

Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil had previously confirmed to Scoop that upgrading works on the complex’s swimming pool had begun, after more than four years of neglect.

He said that based on information received from DBKL in May this year, the work is expected to take between 42 and 44 weeks to complete.

Scoop had earlier reported in December 2024 that stagnant water in the abandoned pool had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, prompting health concerns amid a rise in dengue cases.

Following the report, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif pledged immediate action and dispatched officers to inspect the facility.

Local residents said they are hopeful the refurbishment will restore the pool to its former status as a hub for community and recreational activities.

Built by DBKL in 1978, the Bangsar Sports Complex houses an artificial turf futsal court, four tennis courts, four badminton courts now also used for pickleball, a gymnasium, and a 25-metre swimming pool.

The complex has long been known for offering some of the most affordable gym rates in Kuala Lumpur, with entry fees of RM2 during the day and RM5 in the evening, giving residents access to a good range of weights and cardio equipment. - November 12, 2025
